Wreck Damages Traffic Signal in Downtown A traffic signal at Waco and Elm streets was knocked down Wednesday evening (August 27) when a tractor-trailer rig cut the corner too close.
Hillsboro police were notified of the accident at 6:09. The truck, which was pulling a piece of oilfield equipment, hit the light standard on the southwest corner.
The standard came to rest on top of the piece of equipment, but was still operating.
According to a police department spokesman, the truck wasn’t moved until about 9 o’clock.
Two Injured When SUV Goes Off Bridge Two persons were injured when a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) went off the Hackberry Creek bridge on Highway 22 in west Hillsboro.
The accident was reported to law enforcement officials at 3:30 a.m. Saturday, August 23.
Philip Sanford of Hillsboro was traveling eastbound on the highway when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a guardrail approach. -MORE-Hillsboro Man Arrested With Drug Paraphernalia Investigation of a suspicious person led to an arrest by Hillsboro police Tuesday morning, August 26.
Authorities were told that a man was jumping in front of vehicles on Corsicana Highway about 2:50 a.m.

The Hillsboro resident was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia after a “crack” pipe was found in his pocket.
Making the arrest were Officer Justin Girsh and Corporal Kyle Cox.
DPS Out In Force Labor Day Weekend The Department of Public Safety (DPS) is stepping up enforcement Labor Day weekend in an effort to make the roads of Texas safer.
All available troopers will be on duty Friday, August 29, through Monday, September 1, looking for drunk drivers, speeders and seatbelt violators.
"Alcohol is a big concern this time of year, because this is the last big recreational weekend of the summer," said DPS Director Colonel Thomas A. Davis Jr. "Simply put, drunk drivers are a menace on our roadways."
DPS supports the "Drink. Drive.
